East Men’s League
Premier A
COLCHESTER started their new campaign back in the East Premier League against Bromley and Beckenham, a team who had finished second in the league last season. The home side started nervously but it soon became apparent that the team were strong enough to compete, with possession equally shared between the sides in the opening exchanges. The visitors broke the deadlock in the first half with their forward out-powering the Colchester defence and then bobbling the ball into the goal. A second soon followed in a similar manner, much to the disappointment of the home side.
Half time helped Colchester re-focus and start the second half strongly. Some fine work by man of the match Angela Roberts helped keep Colchester in the Bromley and Beckenham half, but unfortunately the breakthrough the home side deserved never happened.
Two late goals by the visitors gave a flattering score line, but Colchester take away many positives for the season and plenty to work on.
