FORMER Colchester United defender Lee Beevers has signed for Walsall on a free transfer.

Defender Beevers, a centre-half or full-back, was released by the U’s this summer but will now be staying in League One with the Saddlers.

Beevers, a former Ipswich Town trainee, did not enjoy much success at Colchester during his two-year stay, following his switch from Lincoln City in the summer of 2009.

A regular for the Imps (166 league appearances), Beevers was hampered by injuries while with the U’s, most notably a shoulder injury at the start of his time at the Community Stadium. He only started 16 games in League One for United, and 23 league appearances in all.

He played for Walsall in a friendly against Greenock Morton earlier this week.
