SUNDAY'S Artic conditions failed to deter 80 riders from taking part in CCS's annual reliability ride around the district. With two distances to choose from, a 27-mile or a 48-mile circuit, the only problem the organisers had to overcome was a stretch of dangerous packed ice on the road around the longer ride. Some hasty revisions to the course directions allowed the event to go ahead.
Starting from Great Cornard's Stevenson Centre in temperatures below zero, riders from all around East Anglia, including 20 from the home club, negotiated the course without any major incidents.
First back on the longer course was Steve Clarke in 2hrs 22mins quickly followed in by Dominic Schils from the Belgian Van Eyck Sport team. James Rush from the host club was first back on the shorter course in 1hr 24mins.
The organisers were pleased with the high turnout considering the extreme conditions and received a lot of favourable comments from visiting riders for their efforts.
