Division One North
Norwich City 1 Ipswich II 2
IPSWICH pressurised the Norwich City 'D' early on, retaining the majority of possession for the first 15 minutes of the game. Ipswich captain Hannah Tallent was fouled in the City 'D' and Ipswich were awarded a flick which was converted by forward Connie Bedingfield. City fought back a little and possession became more evenly spread. Ipswich won a penalty corner which was slipped left to Connie Bedingfield whose flick was deflected off a defenders stick sending the ball high into the air before dropping into top the top right corner of the goal; however the umpire gave a long-corner!
Ipswich sent a pass through to forward Alex Chidgney who took on the defender one-on-one and slotted it past the City keeper. The team continued to work hard in attack for the remainder of the half.
After half-time some substitutions in the City squad gave them fresh legs and they proceeded to pile pressure on the Ipswich defence for a while, scoring during this period. Ipswich's defence consisting of Sam Bennett, Fi Moran, Jenny Ellis and Hannah Brooks worked hard clearing several penalty corners and with keeper Jade Daly making some quality saves.
Ipswich continued to look dangerous in attack throughout the second half, with great leading runs from Ariane Hanman and Mitch Chidgney in midfield, but were unable to extend their lead further.
Despite multiple stick tackles from City players on the Ipswich forwards and midfielders, one (legitimate) tackle from Hannah Tallent in midfield lead to her being sent off with a yellow card. Ipswich continued to work hard to generate opportunities in attack right up to the final whistle.
Ipswich have now moved up to fifth place in East Division One North with 21 points. Man of the match this week was awarded to Connie Bedingfield and Personal Best to Jenny Ellis for her steadfast work in left defence. Ipswich face Long Sutton at home next Saturday.
