This has been possibly the most productive week of the season for the Sports Academy in terms of results.

After a few good performances, the girls' football team went on a goal frenzy at home to Long Road Sixth Form College in the English Schools and Colleges Cup. This is a new competition this season for women.

The West Suffolk College lasses clocked up ten goals without reply, with Becky Vaughan and Simone Scott both scoring hat-tricks. Other goals came from Aimee Harrison, Lauren Cartwright (two) and Alisha Pugh.

In the male equivalent competition, our lads travelled to Stamford to play New College Stamford. The match was played at AFC Stamford's ground. After a sloppy opening half, West Suffolk College turned on the style and managed to score twice. Josh Curry and James Haylock scored those goals. We are waiting for the draw for the next round.

Team Bury's fortunes have turned round and, after the draw at Diss and the rout at home to Downham, we recorded another two wins.

At Cornard last Wednesday a place in the next round of the Ridgeons League Division One knock out cup was up for grabs.

We started brightly and went 2-0 ahead, with Craig Nurse scoring both goals. Cornard hit back before the break to reduce the arrears. Although there were no further goals in the second half, we were comfortable for the most part, and should really have added to our tally.

So, on to another cup competition, this time the Suffolk Senior Cup. A short trip to Stowupland Falcons yielded a 3-1 win. We were without a number of lads who had been called up to the Suffolk Under-18 squad but still fulfilled the match. We never really got going, but did enough to win the match with goals from Craig Nurse and Anthony Bannister (two).

The Rugby lads were without a fixture but there will be some 10's action and a Daily Mail Cup match to report on next week.
