COLCHESTER United manager Paul Lambert described his side's staggering 7-1 victory at Norwich City as “just phenomenal.”
The Scotsman watched his side race into a four-goal lead inside the first quarter of the game, and then extend it to 5-0 at the break in an unbelievable opening day display.
“As I told the lads at half-time, that's the best I've seen in years, and that includes as a player as well as a manager!” enthused Lambert.
“I thought my players were sensational. We were never going to come here to sit back, and I still think that Norwich are one of the favourites to get promoted. This might just give them a fright.
“Kevin Lisbie and Clive Platt were a real handful up front. They were both brilliant. Kevin's arrival is a massive boost for us, and Clive was been fantastic throughout pre-season.
“7-1 is just a phenomenal score. We didn't relax at half-time, even though we were 5-0 up, because we knew that if we had scored five goals in the first half, then Norwich could be capable of scoring five in 45minutes as well.
“It was a sensational performance from everyone, but you win nothing in August, so we won't be getting carried way,” added Lambert.
