It's back to League One action for Ipswich Town and a Friday night visit from Fleetwood Town in League One. MIKE BACON takes a look at the Blues' visitors.

The story so far....

Plymouth Argyle have only lost two League One games this season. One of them was against Town's opponents tonight, Fleetwood.

Admittedly, it was only the second game of the campaign for both teams back in August.

But beat Plymouth, Fleetwood did. They are not a team that are easily beaten.

Because, while the team from the Lancashire coast may sit in 17th place in League One, they are the side currently with the most draws to their name in the division.

Fleetwood have drawn 10 of their 19 League One games, including against Derby, Portsmouth and Lincoln, while Peterborough have already been beaten by Scott Brown's side.

This is a team not to be taken lightly. They are not prolific scorers (20), but neither do they concede many (19). Tough nuts to crack.

However, they have a tricky-looking few months ahead. After the clash with Town, Barnsley, Portsmouth and Sheffield Wednesday (twice), are all on the horizon for Brown's side.

Ipswich ought to have enough at Portman Road to see them off though.

Prediction: Town 2 Fleetwood 0.

Meet the boss

For many years, Scott Brown was synonymous with Celtic - an inspirational and aggressive captain who wore his heart on his sleeve and led from the front.

The midfielder won 10 titles, six Scottish Cups and six Scottish League Cups in his time at Parkhead after signing from Hibernian in 2007.

After hanging up his boots last season with Aberdeen, he moved into full-time management with Fleetwood in the summer. He's not looked back.

He knows he is in for a tough game at Portman Road this evening but admits he likes the way Town play.

"We’ve watched Ipswich quite regularly and I like the way they play; they press the ball high up the park and are possession-based, with three centre-halves who are calm on the ball," Brown said.

"Their midfielders want to support and help score goals, with their strikers and wingers also wanting to cause problems in any game.

"I spoke to Kieran [McKenna] at the start of the season about a couple of players and you can tell by the way he speaks about football, that he’s got a great understanding of the game. He’s a young coach who wants to learn and strives to be the best he can and that’s shown as he’s had a fantastic start so far."

Still in the FA Cup

Like Ipswich Town, Fleetwood Town still find themselves in the FA Cup this season.

And like Kieran McKenna's Blues, the Cod Army have also been drawn at home - to Championship side QPR.

It's a good draw for the Lancashire side who, again like Ipswich, have had to overcome two non-league sides on their way to the third round.

In round one Fleetwood beat Oxford City and in the last round, they put out Ebbsfleet United.

Head to head

Ipswich and Fleetwood have met each other six times in all competitions.

In fact, there has only been one competition they've met in, League One, where Ipswich found themselves in 2019 under Paul Lambert - Fleetwood were already there.

Ipswich have slightly the upper hand with four wins, while Fleetwood have won twice, there has never been a draw.

The last time the two side's met was at Fleetwood back in March, where Sam Morsy and Kayden Jackson kept Ipswich's play-off hopes alive with a 2-0 win.

The last time the two sides met at Portman Road, Paul Cook was in charge, Town winning 2-1.

What the bookies say

The biggest surprise with the odds for this game is the very generous ones being offered on a Fleetwood win. It is a two-horse race and Brown's side have only lost five League One games all season, why can't they nick it? In saying that, Town are rightly favourites.
