Burnley manager Vincent Kompany was pleased to come away with a replay from his side’s game at ‘special’ Portman Road.

Ipswich Town held the Championship leaders to a 0-0 draw in the two sides’ fourth-round FA Cup tie, with a replay likely to be played at Turf Moor in 10 days' time.

Asked what he made of Town, the Manchester City legend replied: “They were everything I knew.

“They were well set-up with some good patterns and principles on the ball and a good intensity to go and press.

“With the support of the home crowd and this being a cup tie, we expected a tough game. That’s why I’m happy, though I’m usually never happy if we don’t win, and looking forward to taking this game back to Turf Moor.

“Ipswich have a decent squad and there are teams in the Championship you can face who don’t have the depth they have.

“It’s a good team and a good club. It was a difficult game but it’s a good result. I’m not complaining.

“I can imagine a trip from Ipswich all the way to Burnley, in midweek, is less appealing but for us it’s a home game.”

This was Kompany’s first visit to Portman Road, with the former centre-half impressed with the Blues’ home.

“Whatever camera angles you guys have here don’t do it justice,” he said. “It’s bigger than it looks.

“I have travelled and played all over England but this is a special place, that’s for sure.

“This game is a credit to English football. A third division team playing against a second division team – I don’t think there are any other countries where you see 25,000 fans turn up for a fourth-round cup game. It can’t happen.

“It was great to show this environment to the players we have signed because they now understand the game in this country is different than anyway else.

“I know it because I have been in this country for a long time but it’s a unique thing you guys have going here.

“It’s pretty special.”

Asked if he thought a draw was a fair result, Kompany replied: “Yeah, probably.

“I usually like to watch the game back before I (say things like that) but I didn’t have a clear feeling it was a clean game for anyone. It was well-battled and well-fought but, to our standards, we come out with the ball more in duels and second balls.

“We are usually more aggressive, but that’s normal. The pitch was going to bring its own challenges but it was never a clean game, so the result, in my opinion, looks fair.

“I’m probably one of the few managers who is not disappointed that we have a replay.

“It’s a tough away game and it was always going to be a tough game. We get to take it back to Turf Moor and we have a squad of players dying to prove themselves.”
