Burnley boss Vincent Kompany believes Ipswich Town ‘have the level’ to play in the Championship.

The Blues pushed Kompany’s Clarets all the way in the FA Cup, firstly at Portman Road in the initial staging before tonight’s replay saw the hosts dig out a victory at the death thanks to Nathan Tella’s goal.

The Manchester City legend has been impressed with what he’s seen from Kieran McKenna’s side, who matches their hosts for long spells, and believes the Blues match-up well to the teams Burnley face in the Championship week-in, week-out.

“It’s job done, exactly that,” the Belgian said following his side’s victory.

“It was a tough game, which was to be expected because Ipswich are a good side and there’s not a lot of difference between Ipswich and some of the teams we face in the Championship.

“Therefore I’m really pleased with the result.

“We have had a lot of opponents at Turf Moor and there aren’t many who have competed like they have, so I’d say they have the level.

“The rest, I suppose you will tell me League One is just as competitive as the Championship and it’s just as difficult to get out of.”

Discussing Town further, Kompany continued: “They obviously have a big squad because they made changes and have intensity throughout the squad.

“They make you work hard to recover the ball and work hard to stop you getting chances. In the end it was a good game for everyone.

“You might not have seen chance, after chance after chance but it was an active game. That comes from both teams.”

Burnley’s reward for beating Town is a fifth-round clash with Fleetwood at Turf Moor, after Scott Brown’s side beat Sheffield Wednesday this evening.
