Ipswich Town have removed the iconic Suffolk Punch from their badge in support of World Wildlife Day.

The club are supporting the World Wildlife Fund’s (WWF) #WorldWithoutNature campaign, which aims to highlight the dramatic loss of global habitats and the social and economic risks that poses.

Global wildlife population sizes have plummeted by an average of  69% since 1970, with the UK losing 70% of ancient woodlands, seeing rivers polluted and wildflower meadows almost vanish.

Town have joined brands and sports clubs around the world today (March 3) by removing the Suffolk Punch from their club crest on social media until Saturday morning.

Felicity Glennie Holmes, executive director for communications and marketing at WWF International said: "We want this year’s #WorldWithoutNature to make audiences think twice about the beauty and nature that we’ve long taken for granted, but which is quickly disappearing before our eyes.

"We need more people, more than ever to get behind our efforts to halt and reverse nature loss by 2030. That’s exactly why we’re asking some of the world’s best-loved brands and sports teams to show the world what nature loss could look like."
