Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna says his squad's focus remains razor sharp as a high-quality top-two race in League One enters the final fortnight.

The Blues came-from-behind to beat Port Vale 2-1 at Portman Road on Tuesday night, making it 10 wins from the last 11 games.

That magnificent run of form - in which 31 goals have been scored and just two conceded - leaves Town needing eight points from their final four matches to secure automatic promotion back into the Championship.

McKenna, however, is taking nothing for granted ahead of quickfire away games against fifth-place Peterborough (Saturday) and fourth-place Barnsley (Tuesday).

“Nothing is done yet - that’s so obvious that it hardly needs to be said," said the Blues boss.

"We’re on an incredible run. We’ve got 88 points. Somebody said to me that nobody has ever not finished in the top two with 90+, but I’m pretty certain it’s going to happen this year.

"It’s not like we’re sitting seven points clear. We have no margin (for error) and neither do the other teams.

“It’s a really competitive top of the division. We have to keep performing."

On his 'one game at a time' mantra, McKenna explained: “It’s been our way all season. It’s something we spoke about from the first day in pre-season.

"We talked about how we were going to focus on us and our performances, not worry too much about the outcome, focus on the process and try to improve each day, prepare for every game in a professional manner and trust that we’d pick up results along the way.

“When you come to the end of the season the external noise becomes louder, but we’ve been really consistent with our messages and behaviours inside the building and the players take a good lead on that.

“Of course players will check the table, the points and see how the other teams are getting on, but we’ve had enough experiences over the season to know that every game is difficult.

“We knew Port Vale would be a difficult game and that there were no guarantees. We certainly know that going into Saturday with the level of the opponent.

“I think the players have enough respect for the difficulty of this division to know that as soon as we take our eye too much off the next game and what we need to do then we’ll get found out very quickly.

“That’s where our focus has been since the first day and that’s where it remains now."

McKenna added: "A former staff member spoke to me recently and said ‘it must be amazing right now, everyone must be so happy’ and I said ‘it’s not really any different’.

“We don’t have any time to look back and pat ourselves on the back for our form. All we’re thinking about is the next game.

“On the flip side, when you don’t win at Cheltenham, the mood remains pretty similar day-to-day.

“We’re focused, we’re working hard and we’re preparing as well as we can. The time for looking back and hopefully enjoying the emotions of what the season has brought will be in the summer."
