Former Ipswich Town midfielder Liam Trotter announced his retirement from football last week after making more than 400 senior appearances.
Ipswich-born Trotter spoke with Ross Halls in wide-ranging interview that reflects on his time playing for his hometown club and career as a whole.
In it he discusses:
- Early days playing football in Suffolk and joining the Town academy;
- Being a member of the Blues’ U18s side which won the FA Youth Cup in 2005;
- Making his senior debut at Plymouth in Joe Royle's final game as Town boss;
- Playing three games in three days for the first team, reserves and U18s;
- Scoring on his home debut in a memorable 3-1 win over Colchester;
- Playing under Jim Magilton and loan spells away from Portman Road;
- Roy Keane becoming manager and starting games under him;
- Leaving the club to join Millwall;
- Scoring a late equaliser against Town on his Nottingham Forest debut;
- Playing in America and return to England playing for Bromley and Chelmsford City;
- Why he felt now was the time to hang up his boots.
