Ipswich Town are closing in on the signing of Peterborough United midfielder Jack Taylor for a fee of around £1.5m.

The 25-year-old is currently undergoing a medical. He will pen a three-year deal and become the newly-promoted Blues' first signing of the transfer window.

Kieran McKenna has finally got his man having tried to land the former Republic of Ireland U21 international in the last two transfer windows.

Posh's director of football Barry Fry revealed recently that Ipswich had three bids for Taylor rebuffed in January

It's understood that Ipswich told Peterborough that they were ending negotiations last week, with the League One club - keen to raise funds - subsequently coming back to the table to discuss a deal for a player entering the final year of his contract.

Just last Tuesday, Peterborough chairman Darragh MacAnthony said he didn't expect this transfer to happen.

Let go by Chelsea as a teenager, Taylor went on to score 16 goals in 129 appearances for Barnet across League Two and the National League.

That form saw him make a £500k switch to Peterborough in January 2020. He leaves London Road having scored 22 goals in 138 appearances across campaigns in the Championship and League One, finishing last season in top form for a side that finished sixth in the third-tier.

Town now have nine central midfielders in their first team squad, Taylor joining Sam Morsy, Massimo Luongo, Lee Evans, Dominic Ball, Panutche Camara, Cameron Humphreys, Rekeem Harper and Idris El Mizouni.
