Ipswich Town started their pre-season campaign with a 6-1 win over AFC Sudbury at Playford Road this afternoon.

The game was a 30-minute each way format, like the men’s first match at Felixstowe & Walton United last week.

The vistiors took a early lead after a defensive mixup for Town, before Nia Evans levelled for Town moments later, with a finish at the back post.

Bonnie Horwood then gave the Blues the lead when she scored from close range after Holly Turner helped on Sophie Peskett's cross.

Peskett went on to score her own after breaking into the area and dinking the ball over the goalkeeper to make it 3-1 going into half-time.

Town then bagged a quick-fire double to start the second-half as Summer Hughes and Natasha Thomas got a goal apiece.

Goal number six came when Horwood headed home from Evie Williams’ cross for her second of the afternoon.

The game was followed by a penalty shoot-out with the Blues winning 4-3, with the day a good way for the Blues to get their pre-season programme under way in front of a decent crowd at the Ipswich Town training ground.

The standout performer was winger Peskett, who took her goal well and was a menace all day for the Sudbury defence with her pace and forward runs.

Youngsters Evie Williams and Leah Mitchell also impressed during this showing, with both players likely to feature throughout pre-season and beyond.

New signing Maisy Barker featured for the first time since signing for the club, playing on the right-side and putting a few dangerous balls in the box.

Overall it was good minutes for all the players, with a few missing from the squad, including skipper Blue Wilson, Eloise King, Lucy O'Brien and Liv Smith.

The Tractor Girls are in action next Sunday when they travel to Barclays Championship side Charlton Athletic at their Sparrows Lane training ground.
