Ipswich Town Women finished their pre-season schedule with a 2-0 defeat against Championship side Crystal Palace at the AGL Arena, writes Ciara Steward.

It was the first time Joe Sheehan's side have been back in Felixstowe since May when they just missed out on the league title by goal difference.

The opening moments of the game were cagey and the match lacked many clear cut chances, but it was a good test for Town against a side who finished fourth in the second tier last season.

East Anglian Daily Times:

The visitors opened the scoring in the 34th minute, which didn't come easily for the Eagles as it took a series of chances to secure the opening goal.

Town played hard and did create a couple of chances but went into the break behind.

Palace went on to double their lead in the 69th minute from a rebound after Nina Meollo had made a superb initial save.

Two minutes later the Blues were close to pulling a goal back when summer signing Maisy Barker delivered a dangerous ball from the right to striker Holly Turner, whose header just skimmed over the top of the crossbar.

East Anglian Daily Times:

Joe Sheehan's side kept pushing for a goal late on but were unable to find it and finished their pre-season schedule with a record of two wins, a draw and three defeats over the course of six games.

We understand the Blues are set to add more signings to their squad ahead of the FA Women's National League Southern Premier Division season which starts this Sunday.

The Tractor Girls travel to newly promoted Cardiff City at their Ocean Park Arena, with the kick-off at 2pm.

Town: Soper (Meollo), Boswell, Mitchell, Wearing, Hughes, Horwood (c), Robertson (Ev. Williams), Barker, Evans (Trialist), Peskett, Thomas (Turner)
