Ipswich Town assistant manager Martyn Pert says he's excited to see who the Blues draw in the next round of the Carabao Cup following tonight's penalty shootout win at Reading.
Town recovered from Brandon Williams' early own goal to lead through finishes from Cameron Humphreys and Freddie Ladapo, but conceded again late on when Kelvin Ehibhatiomhan profited from George Edmundson's slip to make it 2-2.
Conor Chaplin, Lee Evans and Jack Taylor all netted in a 3-1 shootout victory against the young League One hosts, with Ipswich into round three for the first time since 2015.
With the Premier League big boys entering into tomorrow night's draw, which will follow the game between Doncaster and Everton, Pert said: "I'm really delighted to get through. It was exciting in the end.
"Obviously they scored early and made it a real challenge for us because they were well-organised and worked really hard. They didn't give us many opportunities through the middle of the pitch, so we had to work the sides and try to create something. It was difficult because they had so many players in front of the goal.
"You're wondering where you're going to get the goal from. It was a case of keep doing the simple things, keep working the sides and eventually Omari (Hutchinson) showed a bit of skill. He'd been coming inside the pitch and I think the lad thought he was going to come inside again, but he showed a good bit of skill, it's a good cross and Cam Humphreys does what he does. It was good timing to get the equaliser and really helped us going into half-time.
"Second half we get the goal. It's a great pass from Evo (Lee Evans) and Freddie takes it really well. Unfortunately we concede again late on. I've looked at it again. I think it is a foul - he's clipped his heels - but it was a good finish from the lad once he got in.
"After that we stayed positive and were able to get the result through the penalties. All the players were really keen to get their hands on one."
On Reading's opener, which saw keeper Cieran Slicker's punch richochet in off team-mate Williams, Pert said: "I think we probably didn't get the numbers back inside the frame of the goal. That probably allowed the cross to come in in terms of the front area and then it's just unfortunate. That's what happens when the gets into the box."
With third round games scheduled for the week beginning September 25, Pert added: "I'm excited about the draw and to see who we're going to get. "We've got a good squad to deal with the games. We changed the 11 today and it gives everyone opportunity to play and get the minutes."
