Ipswich Town are closing in on the loan signing of Tottenham forward Dane Scarlett.

The 19-year-old - who can play in a variety of attacking roles - has been a regular for England at U19 and U20 level. He made his Tottenham debut as a 16-year-old in the Europa League and went on to make two sub appearances in the Premier League.

He spent last season on loan at League One club Portsmouth where he scored six goals in 24 starts and 16 sub appearances.

Speaking after Town's 3-2 home win against Pompey last October, Blues boss Kieran McKenna said: "One of the only players they have that doesn't have Championship experience is one of the best young strikers in world football, in my opinion, in Dane Scarlett."

It's understood the Blues have beaten several Championship clubs to Scarlett's signature. He will add competition to an attacking unit that includes Wes Burns, Conor Chaplin, Nathan Broadhead, Kayden Jackson, Omari HUtchinson, Marcus Harness, Sone Aluko, George Hirst and Freddie Ladapo.

He will become the Blues' sixth signing of the summer following the arrivals of striker Hirst (Leicester, £1.5m), midfielder Jack Taylor (Peterborough, £1.5m), winger Hutchinson (Chelsea, loan), full-back Brandon Williams (Manchester United, loan) and keeper Cieran Slicker (Man City, undisclosed).
