Ipswich Town captain Sam Morsy has missed out on a place in Egypt's squad for their upcoming friendlies against Zambia and Algeria.

The 32-year-old was called up during the last international break, having last represented his country in 2018. He played against both Ethiopia and Tunisia, taking his total number of caps to nine, but only managed a handful of minutes off the bench.

Manager Rui Vitoria included him in the preliminary squad for their upcoming training camp, but he failed to make the final cut despite leading the Blues to an incredible start in the Championship.

Morsy will be hoping to return to the side for their World Cup qualifying matches against Djibouti and Sierra Leone in November, which will be the last opportunity to impress before next year's African Cup of Nations.

Ipswich have had five call-ups so far this month, with Cieran Slicker (Scotland under-21's), Wes Burns, Nathan Broadhead (both Wales), Cameron Burgess and Massimo Luongo (both Australia) set to play on the international stage in the next fortnight.
