Ipswich Town Women progressed to the second round of the FA Cup after a 6-0 win over Northampton Town with goals from O'Brien, Thomas, Peskett and Horwood.

Town had a great opportunity as Lucy O'Brien danced between defenders before taking a shot which was well saved by the Cobblers goalkeeper.

Town went 1-0 up in the 21st minute after a fantastic ball over the top from Evie Williams found O'Brien, who took the ball down brilliantly and slotted low into the back of the net.

2-0 to town just seven minutes later as Sophie Peskett found Natasha Thomas with a pull back across goal, which was slotted home by the Town number 7.

Town almost went 3-0 up through Williams, who took the shot on from 25 yards out, but her effort was saved by McLean in the Northampton net.

McLean, again, Northampton's saviour as she pulled off an outstanding save from Thomas' close-range shot.

Town scored their third just before the end of the half as O'Brien again ran through on goal following a fantastic lobbed through ball from Maria Boswell and slotted past McLean.

Town started the second half as positively as they finished the first as O'Brien played a through-ball to Thomas whose shot went just wide of the post.

Northampton had an opportunity to get one back as Bowell's back pass sold Hartley short whose clearance went straight to an opposition player who went just wide from range.

McLean, undoubtedly Northampton's best player, saved yet another shot from close range as Lenna Gunning-Williams and O'Brien saw shots saved.

Peskett made it four in the 66th minute as she was found in space from Bonnie Horwood's free kick, and Town's number 17 finished into the far corner of the goal.

A fantastic solo run from Peskett had the Cobblers defence flailing, but her shot fizzed just over the bar.

O'Brien, Town's best player, won a penalty in the 86th minute, which was converted by Town captain Horwood.

Thomas scored her second of the game following consistent pressure, volleying in from the edge of the six-yard box.
