Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna was pleased to see his team get back to being fast starters in tonight's 3-1 home win against Millwall.

Goals from Conor Chaplin (5), Massimo Luongo (12) and Nathan Broadhead (38) put the game to bed before half-time, the Blues moving to within one point of Championship leaders Leicester City.

"I think there were lots of good things about the performance," said McKenna, whose side had conceded early goals in their previous six matches.

"Of course we get off to a good start with the early goal, but also our intensity looked really good from the first whistle.

"We score three really good goals. Three, in a nice way, typical goals for us, and created other good chances. I thought our counter pressure was good, especially in the first half. We know that's an area we need to improve in this division because the level is much higher in terms of team's ability to counter-attack against you.

"In general, we defended pretty well, especially our pressing from the front. There were good things, definitely things to improve on as well, but overall it's a good night's work."

With Kevin Nisbet scoring a consolation goal for the Lions in the 78th minute, denying Town their first clean sheet since October 25, McKenna added: "I thought we played pretty well second half. I didn't think there was any big drop off in our concentration and our effort or anything like that, so no problems there. I thought the players tried hard to keep the standards high. It's not easy to do that at 3-0 when Millwall weren't really chasing the game.

"We had some chances to get the fourth goal, if we get that it puts a different shine on it, we didn't do it and Millwall scored with their first foray into our box in a long time. That bit's disappointing for the players, they wanted to get the clean sheet tonight, but I do think our reaction to that goal was much better than Swansea in a similar situation.

"In that game, when we were in complete control and conceded, I thought there was a little bit of panic and we were a little bit individual. Tonight we regrouped pretty well to see the game out.

"I've got no problems with the second half performance at all. Sometimes you get the goals early and it's hard to keep the flow going. I'm disappointed with the goal against but pretty pleased with the reaction."
