Ipswich Town were held to a frustrating goalless draw in their final match of 2023. Alex Jones provides his player ratings.
Vaclav Hladky
Made a couple of good saves to deny Sinclair Armstrong and did well to claw Steve Cook's header away. Looked sharp playing out from the back, boasting 100% pass accuracy. Didn't have a great deal to do other than that. 7
Brandon Williams
Had a few really tough moments against Ilias Chair. Some good bits of defending but didn't look overly sharp, nor did he really contribute going forward as much as we've seen. 5
Luke Woolfenden
Largely excellent. Looked really good on the ball, but it was his positioning that stood out most of all. Seemed to be everywhere that QPR wanted to play, stopping them in their tracks at crucial moments. He did lose his head a little bit with a yellow card in the second half and he lost his composure as a result. 8
Cameron Burgess
Wasn't really tested too much but had a few nice moments defensively. His best bits came on the ball, where he did well playing out from the back. Some of his long-range lobs weren't quite as accurate as we've seen so far this season. 7
Cameron Humphreys
Made his first league start since February in a position that certainly isn't natural to him, yet he didn't look at all out of place. Defended well against Chris Willock, although Paul Smyth got more joy against him. Crucially, he created more chances (3) than anyone on the pitch. His pinpoint cross onto the head of Freddie Ladapo showed his quality. An impressive showing in tough conditions. 8 (Man of the Match)
Dom Ball
Some good moments but he did look pretty rusty. Had a really nice turn in the first half where he found space and created a good chance, but he was a little rusty after that. 6
Massimo Luongo
Dictated play well and tried to play forward, but he didn't look as good without Sam Morsy next to him. Enjoyed playing alongside Jack Taylor a little bit more. Tried to get stuck in and add the aggression that Town lacked. 7
Omari Hutchinson
This was a big chance for him and he didn't really take it. Looked off the pace and didn't do enough to cause Kenneth Paal any problems. His crosses weren't accurate enough and he just didn't look as lively as he has done off the bench. Frustrating. 5
Conor Chaplin
Had the least touches of any outfield player to play 90 minutes. Looked a bit lost without his first-choice teammates around him. QPR isolated him aside from one moment from an early corner. 5
Marcus Harness
Lost the most duels (8) of anyone on the pitch. Tried his best but just didn't find much joy out wide aside from the start, where he created two golden chances for Freddie Ladapo. Had a great chance to score around the hour-mark but couldn't capitalise. 6
Freddie Ladapo
A really poor night. Had three great chances to break the deadlock. He couldn't capitalise on a one-on-one opportunity for the first, he fired the second straight at the goalkeeper and headed the third wide of the target. Feels like he'll be one of the first to move on next month. 4
Sub: Harry Clarke (63')
Offered a lot more down the right flank, although he was caught high for a good opportunity that emanated from his side, with Smyth firing wide in the box. 6
Sub: Kayden Jackson (63')
Totally isolated. Didn't have anything to work with, which wasn't really his fault, but this was a game where it was hard to notice his presence. Just 12 touches in almost 30 minutes. 5
Sub: Jack Taylor (63')
Offered something different to Ball but still found it hard when pushing for the goal. Often made to pay for overthinking on the ball when he clearly wanted to shoot from distance. 6
