Former Ipswich Town defender Sammy Moore, who was part of the side who lifted the FA Youth Cup in 2005, has left his role as first-team coach at Faversham Town.

The 36-year-old was sacked after a three-match winless run despite still topping the Southern Counties East League Premier Division.

Moore joined the Lillywhites from Isthmian Premier side Potters Bar in November 2022 amid their bid for Isthmian South East survival.

He was unable to keep them up, but he picked up 13 wins, four draws and five defeats from 22 games this season, leaving them top of the table by a point.

On Saturday, they suffered a 4-2 home defeat to Deal Town, which has seen him lose his job after take charge of more than 50 games.

A statement from Faversham chairman Gary Smart said: “Personally and from the board of directors, we would like to thank Sammy and his amazing family for all the hard work and effort that has been put into the club over the last 14 months.

“As a board - and with the resources at the disposal for the management team, along with the quality of players that have been signed this season - we feel that the combination of recent results, together with the clear objectives of the football club that were set out at the start of the season, have not been achieved."

Moore made just one substitute appearance for Town in a 3-1 win against Sunderland at Portman Road, before leaving the club to join Stevenage in 2008.

He went on to have spells with AFC Wimbledon and Leyton Orient in the Football League before going into coaching, where he has managed Leatherhead, Concord Rangers and Hemel Hempstead Town.
