Ipswich Town are set to sign Blackburn Rovers' club captain Lewis Travis on loan until the end of the season.

The 26-year-old - who can play holding midfield or in either full-back role - started the opening nine Championship games of the season, but has found game time limited since early October.

A player with 180 second-tier appearances to his name, Travis will provide Town will some added experience, leadership and competition as they look to maintain an against-the-odds Premier League promotion push.

Town captain Sam Morsy is suspended for the next two league matches - Sunderland (h) and Leicester (a) - while fellow midfielder Lee Evans (knee) is a long-term absentee.

Full-backs Leif Davis (calf) and Janoi Donacien (groin) are currently sidelined, while Harry Clarke continues to manage an Achilles issue.

Travis is contracted at Ewood Park until 2026. Blackburn reportedly turned down an £800k bid for him from Millwall last summer.

He will become Town's second signing of the January window following the addition of winger Jeremy Sarmiento from Brighton on Wednesday.

He will become the fourth loan player in the squad, with Brandon Williams (Manchester United) and Omari Hutchinson (Chelsea) also borrowed.

Forward Dane Scarlett was recently recalled by parent club Tottenham.
