Joe Sheehan has praised his side's performance after the Tractor Girls were knocked out of the FA Cup at the fourth round stage to Charlton Athletic earlier today.

The high-flying Championship team ran out 4-1 winners, showing their class after Town took the lead in the first eight minutes through player of the match Sophie Peskett.

Sheehan said: "It was a valiant effort.

"They're a really good side and are doing really well in the Championship so it was going to be tough for us.

"We had a really good start and we dealt with pressure well, but unfortunately we conceded some goals from mistakes which is the only disappointment from today because I thought the effort and performance deserved more than that.

"We've been beaten by the better team, but I am really pleased that we stuck to our principles."

Town had beaten Northampton Town, Sutton Coldfield Town and Championship side Lewes to get to this point of the competition.

Sheehan continued: "We knew it would be a different test today compared to Lewes, they're a team in good form and doing really well, and I am pleased that we took the game to them.

"We've had a really good go, worked really hard, stuck around in the game, but we got knocked out by a good team."

The game saw debuts for Tottenham loanees Milly Boughton and Elkie Bowyer, and the return of Issy Bryant, who rejoined the club this week.

On their performance, Sheehan said: "I think they had a good impact.

"They had some really positive touches and moves, and I think they will be really important for us over the rest of the season."

Next up for Town is a trip to The Hive to face London Bees in the league on Sunday.

"It's been a great run in the FA Cup but our focus switches back to the league," Sheehan said.

"There's lots for us to play for still, lots of games, and work will be done."
