Ipswich Town under-21's beat Middlesbrough 2-0 at Needham Market’s Bloomfields in the group stages of the Premier League Cup this evening.

The young Blues had lost 2-0 in the reverse fixture back in October, so they were looking for a win to stay in the competition.

Jesse Nwabueze opened the scoring for Town in the 15th minute. It was his first goal of the season, having recently returned from injury.

Moments later, Town were awarded a penalty but Leon Ayinde missed from the spot.

The hosts went on to double their lead in the second half as Ash Boatswain came off the bench to score in the 79th minute, securing all three points.

The result sees John McGreal's side move up to second in Group H with one game remaining, which is against leaders Crystal Palace at Bloomfields next month.

The young Blues switch their focus back to league action on Friday night, when they travel Maldon & Tiptree.
