Ipswich Town U21s were knocked out of the Premier League Cup after losing 1-0 to Crystal Palace in their final group game at Needham Market’s Bloomfields last night.

Luke Plange scored the only goal of the game in the 55th minute when the forward raced on goal and finished on his left foot to secure top spot in the group for the Eagles.

Osman Foyo came closes to scoring for the Blues – who had scored twice against Palace in the reverse fixture – when he advanced  in the box and bent an effort narrowly wide of the post.

John McGreal's side had to make a first half change as Jesse Nwabueze was replaced on the 41st minute by Rio Morgan. The attacker has recently returned after a long lay-off with injury, so hopefully it's nothing too serious.

The visitors had former Town transfer target Jesurun Rak-Sakyi in their starting XI, with the 21-year-old on his way back from a hamstring he sustained in October.

However, he lasted only 23 minutes as the winger went down and was substituted.

Gerrard Buabo was replaced at half-time as he continues his comeback from a hamstring injury. The forward has recently made three sub appearances for the first team.

This result, along with Middlesbrough’s 4-0 victory at Birmingham, sees the young Blues exit the competition, with Palace and Boro progressing to the last 16.

The young Blues return to action when they host Charlton Athletic at Playford Road next Tuesday, looking to extend their unbeaten run to four games in the league.
