Town Women ran out 4-1 winners over 3rd place Rugby Borough at the AGL Arena in what was the first competitive meeting between the two sides in the dedicated HerGameToo fixture.

Town started the better side, having a few chances inside the first 10 minutes falling to Lucy O'Brien and top scorer Natasha Thomas, but neither could convert past the Borough keeper.

Rugby Borough went down to 10 in the 34th minute following a really late challenge from Angelina Nixon on Ruby Doe saw the Borough number 7 be shown a red card.

Town made the extra player advantage count as Summer Hughes put Town 1-0 up following a cutback from Peskett, with Hughes' shot flying into the top left corner.

10 minutes into the second half, the Tractor Girls almost doubled their lead as a fantastic swivel from captain Maria Boswell played Doe into space, and her cross met the boot of O'Brien, with her effort saved.

Rugby's keeper continued to keep them in the game, as an overhead kick from Doe looked to beat the keeper, but she was able to get a hand to it and tip it onto the crossbar.

In the 70th minute, however, against the run of play, Rugby equalised after catching Town on the counter-attack.

But just a minute later, and seconds after Lenna Gunning-Williams entered the field, she put Town back in front with a delightful slot under the keeper after being played through by Thomas.

Town got their third and Gunning-Williams scored her second of the game in the 75th minute, as the ball was passed around the edge of the area well before finding Gunning-Williams who turned her marker and finished low into the bottom corner.

A brilliant performance was topped off with another Town goal, this time through Elkie Bowyer, who scored her first Town goal after a loose ball in the box fell to the Tottenham loanee and she was able to tuck away the finish.

Town controlled the game throughout, were dominant and always looked the more likely to score, conceding with Rugby's only attack of the game.

Town continue chasing down those above them in the table, with focus now turning to Plymouth Argyle next week.
