Ipswich Town will be without key attacking duo Wes Burns and Nathan Broadhead for Saturday's Championship clash at Plymouth Argyle.

Burns (calf) and Broadhead (thigh) both limped off in last weekend's 3-1 home win against Birmingham City, while Conor Chaplin was forced off following a collision in the latter stages.

"Wes and Nathan are unavailable this weekend," said McKenna, speaking at this lunchtime's press conference.

"They're minor muscle strains. It's very unlikely, I would imagine, they'll be ready for Tuesday (home game against Bristol City). For the Saturday after (at Cardiff) we'll have to wait and see.

"Conor had a bad gash just below his knee from a tackle, so he's needed a few days off to protect that. We're hopeful he will be able to train with the group tomorrow and play some part on Saturday.

"Wes and Nathan are two important players both in good form, but that's what we have the squad for. There will be other players ready to come into the team and make their impact."

Midfielder Jack Taylor hasn't featured for Town since the FA Cup defeat to Maidstone on January 27, having recently been sidelined with a quad injury.

"Jack's back training, so that's been a big positive this week," revealed McKenna.

"He hasn't done all of the sessions, but if he comes through tomorrow okay we're hopeful he might be able to travel with us to Plymouth."

Meanwhile, the Blues boss provided an update on long-term absentee Janoi Donacien.

"Janoi had (groin) surgery about three weeks ago and the recovery is going well," said the Blues boss.

"He's out on the grass running and will start doing ball work next week. Hopefully now, for the first time in a little while, the progression seems to be going in the right direction.

"He's an important player for us. He's one of the best, if not the best, defensive players in terms of one-v-one anticipation and aerially is good as well. If we can have him back fit and available for the last few league games that would certainly be a bonus."

Omari Hutchinson, Jeremy Sarmiento, Ali Al-Hamadi, Marcus Harness and Kayden Jackson are all options to step into the boots of Burns, Broadhead and potentially Chaplin at Home Park, while Sone Aluko is likely to fill a vacant spot on the bench.

“We've had five games in 14 days and the physical output that the players have put in has been outstanding," said McKenna.

"You’re not going to go through a season without picking up some injuries.

"We’ve got other forwards in good form. We added some depth in January for situations like this. Of course you’d rather have everyone fit and available because it makes not just your starting team, but your bench as strong as possible.

“But we have players ready to come into the team who are fit, know their jobs and are in a good place mentally to contribute."
