Leon Ayinde scored twice for Ipswich Town U21s as they saw off an AFC Bournemouth fightback to win 4-2 at Portman Road this afternoon.

John McGreal's side returned to winning ways in the Professional Development League Two South, having lost 5-3 at Watford last week.

Ayinde netted twice in the first half before the Cherries hit back to level. However, Tommy Taylor and Jacob Mazionis sealed the three points.

Town took the lead in the seventh minute when skipper Edwin Agbaje sent a ball across which deflected off a defender and landed at the feet of Ayinde, who shot across the keeper and into the net.

The Irishman went on to score his second of the game in the 34th minute when Steven Turner played a ball forward for Ayinde on the left, who then cut inside and hit a shot past the keeper for his 11th goal of season.

A well-deserved lead at the break for Town as they were playing some really good stuff and should have been more than two goals ahead.

The Cherries pulled a goal back just before the hour mark when Balraj Landa's cross from the right was diverted into his own net by Blues defender Dan O’Connor.

Then it was déjà vu from the last week as Town squandered their lead when Landa scored his second of the afternoon to equalise, pouncing on a loose ball 20 yards out and side-footing past keeper Charlie Binns into the bottom corner.

Showing character though, the young Blues restored their lead when Taylor took the ball past the Cherries keeper and was able to bundle it over the line for his fourth goal in four games.

In stoppage time, Town scored their fourth to seal the win when Matty Roberts sent in an in-swinging free-kick which saw Mazionis climb above everyone to flick a header inside the far post.

Overall, the young Blues deserved the three points - but should have had the game all wrapped up in the first half before allowing the Cherries back into the contest.

However, they showed their quality and togetherness to get back on top and find the goals to win the game, with Taylor really impressing again, leading the line.

Ayinde was lively again with his two goals and will be disappointed that he didn't score more on the day, but overall this was a good performance from the top goalscorer.

The young Blues return to action when they travel to Peterborough United next Tuesday.
