Ipswich Town Women hope to capture the imagination of a new audience tomorrow by showing all the things that have excited fans of the men's team.

With Kieran McKenna's side taking a pause from their push for the Premier League due to an international break, the Tractor Girls are taking centre stage at Portman Road in front of a crowd that could top 10,000.

Asked what first time viewers of the third-tier team could expect in the game against Chatham Town (3pm ko), captain Maria Boswell said: "There’s definitely an identity that we share with the men’s team. We have our own way, but a lot of the principles and processes are very similar.

"We like to be brave in possession, play out from the back, dominate the ball, move through the pitch really clean and create really clear cut opportunities that hopefully we’re cool enough to finish off.

"We’ve got as lot of exciting young players. Lenna (Gunning-Williams) from Tottenham and Ruby (Doe) from Arsenal are going to go on and have amazing careers. We’ve got exciting homegrown talent like Pesk (Sophie Peskett) – she's definitely going to have an exciting career. We have a lot of players that people are definitely going to want to come and see.

"I think a couple of the girls have discussed goal celebrations. But we don’t want to think too much ahead. It’s more about the occasion and what that means rather than the result and the goals. Those things hopefully will come, but that’s not at the forefront of our minds."

The 21-year-old defender added: "We all came together as a group when this game got announced and they showed us a montage of some of our clips mixed in with shots of the stadium. That sent a few chills down the spine.

"Standing in the tunnel beforehand I’m sure there will be some butterflies. It’s something none of us have experienced before, so it’s hard to know how you’re going to react.

"But playing football is our comfort zone. I think once we settle ourselves and the whistle blows, we know what we need to do. It’s going to be a great occasion."

ITFC Women's boss Joe Sheehan said: “Hopefully people see a real synergy with the men’s first team and women’s first team. There’s a really consistent method of work and a style that runs deep throughout the football club. We’re looking forward to, hopefully, putting on a real showcase.

“The success of the men's team has helped us massively. The manager’s influence and us being able to connect with him and see how he works, then translate that over to us, has been hugely beneficial. We’re now starting to see the rewards of what is a really good way of operating. We’re hoping it will be a real solid foundation for long-term success for us."
