The Wales national team have confirmed that Ipswich Town winger Wes Burns has withdrawn from the squad through injury.

The 29-year-old had been in fine form for the Blues, most notably bagging two goals and an assist in a 4-3 win against Rotherham United last month.

However, he suffered a hamstring injury in Saturday’s 6-0 win against Sheffield Wednesday, forcing him to be brought off just before half time after setting up Omari Hutchinson's opener earlier in the match.

Asked about the injury after the game, Town boss Kieran McKenna said: "It doesn't look great.

"It's a hamstring and it doesn't look like a minor one. I don't think it feels like a minor one.

"Of course we'll scan it over the next few days and assess it, but that's the undoubted low point of today.

"Everyone is gutted for Wes down in the dressing room. We just have our fingers crossed that the severity isn't as bad as it possibly could be."

It remains to be seen how long he’ll have to spend on the sidelines, but he won’t be available to represent Wales in their bid to reach Euro 2024.

The Dragons will face Finland in Cardiff on Thursday night, knowing that a win will set up a crunch clash against Poland or Estonia for a place in the group stages of the tournament.

Ipswich duo Kieffer Moore and Nathan Broadhead have both been included in Rob Page’s squad and are expected to play a part in the play-offs.
