Former Ipswich Town midfielder Jon Nolan has left Macclesfield after his contract expired at the Northern Premier League side.

The 32-year-old joined the Silkmen on a free transfer last summer, dropping into non-league football for the first time since 2016 after a spell at League Two side Tranmere Rovers.

He struggled for minutes at the Leasing.com Stadium, with Macclesfield having three different managers during the 2023/24 season.

Nolan was signed by Mark Duffy but he was sacked in October last year, with former Town defender Alex Bruce replacing him, but he departed the club in February to became a first-team coach at Salford City.

His replacement was Michael Clegg who led them to a second place finish in the seventh tier but they were beaten 2-1 by Marine in the play-off final.

In total Nolan played 70 times for Ipswich, scoring 10 goals during his spell at Portman Road, having joined the club alongside Toto Nsiala from Shrewsbury Town in the summer of 2018.
