Ipswich Town played out a 1-1 draw against Southampton at Portman Road this afternoon. Alex Jones provides his player ratings.
Alex Palmer
Nervy on the ball when Southampton put pressure on him, but he handled it well. Not a lot he could have done for the goal. 6
Ben Johnson
Frustrating at times but shielded the ball well when needed. Showed some good attacking drive. 6
Dara O'Shea
Excellent when Southampton went direct, but found it a bit harder when he was on the ball and they pressed hard to make things difficult for him. A little bit static for the equaliser. 6
Jacob Greaves
Calm and composed when he needed to be, but also physical and aggressive when chasing down attackers. The stand-out of the back line for me. 7
Leif Davis
Looked better when inverting into midfield instead of bombing up the wing. It was the latter that saw Ipswich concede after he was caught too far up, allowing Southampton to break. Delivered some strong set pieces. 6
Azor Matusiwa
Still taking some time to adapt to English football. There were some times where he looked sloppy on the ball. A few moments of real quality too. He'll come good, but needs some protection until then. 6
Jack Taylor
Some sloppy moments in possession, but a few nice bits too. Had an aggressive streak in midfield and was unfortunate to not register an assist with a fine ball over the top for Szmodics. 6
Jack Clarke
Still not quite at his best, but did well down the right. Clearly not the side he prefers, but did well to find little pockets to run into and helped force the opener over the line. 6
Sammie Szmodics
Had a couple of golden opportunities to score his first for Town at Portman Road but he wasn't able to take them. You could sense his frustration - he couldn't have come much closer. Worked his socks off and played through a nasty whack to his knee. 7
Jaden Philogene
One of his strongest performances in an Ipswich shirt. Looked lively down the left, linking play and dropping deep when needed. His off-ball work looked much better and he felt like the one who was making things happen. 7 (Man of the Match)
George Hirst
Huffed and puffed. Chased some lost causes, held the ball up well and made it hard for centre-backs. Did really well in the build-up to the opening goal but had little to work with after that. 7

Received a huge ovation when he came on. Saw a good shot blocked in the latter stages. 6
