Levante striker Karl Etta Eyong is reportedly one of Ipswich Town's 'main targets' for the summer transfer window.

That's according to Valencia-based news outlet Cadena SER, who claim that the Blues have made a number of enquiries to understand the financial conditions of a potential deal.

They add that Town are assessing a number of candidates to lead the line before making an offer. Etta Eyong, whose contract expires in 2029, is said to have a €30m (around £26m) release clause, which rises to €40m (around £34m) for Premier League clubs.

The 22-year-old joined Levante from fellow La Liga outfit Villarreal last summer, notching seven goals and four assists in 33 games (18 starts) in the Spanish top flight last summer.

The report says that deal was agreed to sell him to Russian club CSKA Moscow for €25m in January, but that he turned it down to pursue a move to the Premier League.

The likes of FC Barcelona, Real Madrid, Chelsea and Everton have been linked with him in the past.

Villarreal would be due a percentage of any fee due to their sell-on clause, with some of that trickling down to La Liga 2 side Cadiz, another one of Etta Eyong's former clubs.

Alex's thoughts

I really like Etta Eyong. He isn't someone that I thought would be within Ipswich's reach this summer, but if it's a feasible move, he'd be towards the top of my list.

He's done well in front of goal despite fairly limited minutes (1,668 last season, with his last start coming in early February). He's physical, aggressive and a big threat in the box. He likes to track back and does his defensive work too.

He's got room to develop into a top striker. I think that any potential deal would require paying his release clause, which does feel pretty high.

But if he really is a player that Ipswich like and want to sign, I'd be all for it. It would be a real sign of intent.
