It will be a case of west versus east today as Suffolk’s women battle it out for the Suffolk FA Women’s County Cup.

This year’s cup has been fiercely contested with huge score lines flooding in from many of the county’s top teams.

Representing the west of the county are AFC Sudbury Ladies who play in the Eastern Region Premier, the fifth tier of women’s football.

Their opponents are Ipswich Town Ladies who play a league above in the FA Women’s Premier League South East Division.

Sudbury have it all to prove as Town seek a fourth consecutive County Cup title after beating Kirkley and Pakefield, Lowestoft Town and Sudbury themselves in previous years.

It’s been a tough season for the women who have been struggling in the league through injury.

Sudbury manager Natalie Golding, was part of the team that won the cup four years ago.

“It’s a game that’s one of the biggest for women’s football in Suffolk,” said Golding.

“They are the biggest team in Suffolk. I know what the girls need to expect.”

Whilst Golding expects the game to be a difficult one likens her side to Wigan’s men’s team who beat a high flying Manchester City team in this year’s FA Cup.

“We have put all the focus on this. Any thing is possible in football.”

Both teams have been in formidable form this season in the cup easily knocking aside other local teams.

Together they have scored 42 goals in six games: Town with 26 and Sudbury having scored 16.

Sudbury have a clean sheet for the competition as a whole whilst Town had only goal put past them.

Speaking to ITLFC Media about today’s game Ipswich Town Ladies manager Ralph Pruden said: “Every game we go into we are favourites to win it in terms of the County Cup. We don’t take that for granted.

“We have to appreciate that anything can happen and we can’t Sudbury lightly but we will be looking to put on a show and get the win.

“They’ve got some quality there. They’ve got nothing to lose and we have got to make sure that we counter that.”

The two sides will face off outside county lines as they play at the Weston Homes Community Stadium, home of Colchester United. Kick off is at 12pm.

Admission is £5 for adults and £3 for concessions which applies to OAPS and children aged under-16.

Pre-school children accompanied by an adult will be admitted for £1.

Meanwhile, AFC Sudbury will be bidding to complete a hat-trick of successes in the Suffolk Boys’ Under-18 Midweek Cup also today.

They face Bury Town in the final at Colchester United’s Weston Homes Community Stadium, kick-off 4pm.

AFC Sudbury have won the competition in each of the last two seasons – defeating Stowmarket Town 4-1 in the 2015-16 season and Walsham-le-Willows 5-2 in last year’s final.

A 3-1 semi-final victory over Kirkley & Pakefield at Woodbridge Town FC saw AFC Sudbury book their place in the final for a third year in a row.

Opponents Bury Town beat Leiston 6-5 in a penalty shoot-out after the two teams had drawn 1-1 in their last-four tie at Whitton United FC.

Admission to today’s final is £4 for adults and £2 for concessions which applies to OAPS and children aged under-16.

Pre-school children accompanied by an adult will be admitted for £1.
