A crowd of about 7,000 is expected for Colchester United’s pre-season friendly against West Ham, to be staged at the Weston Homes Community Stadium tomorrow afternoon (kick-off 3pm).
The U’s return from their week’s training camp in Holland this evening, ahead of the visit of the newly-promoted Hammers, who will be gracing the Premier League this season.
It will be a special occasion for summer recruit Freddie Sears. The 22-year-old attacker left West Ham with a year still left on his contract to join the U’s on a three-year deal. Sears had been at Upton Park for a decade, from his schoolboy days.
Striker Clinton Morrison, who signed for the U’s on Monday, could also figure against the Hammers. The ex-Crystal Palace, Birmingham, Coventry and Sheffield Wednesday front-man is short of fitness, but has been working hard with two training sessions a day in Holland.
Manager John Ward has no injury concerns ahead of tomorrow’s game, for which nearly 7,000 tickets have already been sold.
