Bourne 0 Colchester 2

A spirited second half performance gave Colchester an important away victory against Bourne.

Colchester were scrappy in the first half, with too many passes going astray and poorly controlled first touches of the ball.

Bourne players tackled strongly and were a constant threat on the break, but the visitor's defence managed to hold firm.

At the other end Helen Barnes was Colchester's biggest attacking threat, making some fine runs into space and taking on the Bourne players.

Both sides had opportunities via short corners, but neither could find the back of the net with the score remaining 0-0 going into half time.

Colchester stepped up a gear in the second half and soon found themselves in the Bourne half, creating opportunities.

The home side were still dangerous on the break so it was with some relief that Colchester took the lead after a Lucy Struth short corner strike found Helen Barnes waiting on the post to slot in on her reverse.

With the tension lifted Colchester looked more relaxed and were soon 2-0 up after man of the match Barnes struck the ball from the edge of the 'D' beating the stranded Bourne keeper.

Colchester held firm for the remainder of the half and moved back up to second place in the league.
