The Ipswich Town striker scored the opener for England after just seven minutes but Portugal equalised almost immediately. Bowditch set up James Milner to give England a 2-1 lead, which they held until the second minute of time added on at the end.
But the Portuguese found a last-gasp equaliser and held their nerve to win the penalty shoot-out
