Brantham Athletic joint-manager Michael Brothers admits to being ‘over the moon’ with the position his side find themselves in.

The Thurlow Nunn Premier Division Blue Imps are currently second in the table after a terrific run of one defeat in nine in all competitions – seven of those wins in the league.

Tomorrow night they look to make it one in 10 with a League Cup clash at Cornard United.

“Our plans this season were probably to finish top three, four, five, but as you know plans don’t happen like that,” Brothers said.

“In fact when we lost to Redbridge and then Felixstowe, we were well beaten, I didn’t know what to think.

“But we have gone on a great run, we’ve really pushed on, we have got a bit of depth to our squad which is nice. Everyone is doing a job, we have a good togetherness and everyone wants success.”

Brothers is joint manager with Matt Carmichael and he admits the pair of them complement each other well, something that has been important to the strides the team is making.

“I don’t think we could be much different, but it works,” Brothers said.

“I’m on the sidelines wanting to be on the pitch, be part of it, while Matt is able to sit back and analyse. Between us it works.”

Brothers has admitted that one of the main reasons in taking the job last season was the ambition the club showed in wanting to move up the pyramid.

He is happy the club have a decent budget and is even happier players want to play.

“Yes, we have a good budget,” he said.

“It’s not a top-five budget, maybe top eight. We have got a nucleus of local lads who want to play for the club and that’s great. It would be nice to finish top three, maybe realistically top five, we’ll see.

“We have some really good players and Ollie Mann has joined us again now too, it’s all looking positive.”

Also in the League Cup tomorrow night, Diss entertain Wroxham, while Ipswich Wanderers and Woodbridge meet at Humber Doucy Lane and Haverhill Rovers entertain Newmarket.

In the Premier Division, Stowmarket Town could leap into second place behind Felixstowe & Walton should they beat Great Yarmouth.
