Ipswich Town head to Griffin Park today for a Championship clash against Dean Smith’s Brentford (3pm).
The Blues drew 2-2 with Millwall in their last game on Easter Monday, with Martyn Waghorn scoring twice in the enetertaining contest at Portman Road.
Next up is a trip to Griffin Park, where the Blues take on the side immediately above them in the table.
Ahead of the game, McCarthy said: “The second half performance (against Millwall) puts that thought to bed for anybody who might think that the lads are not with me, are not motivated and are just letting the season peter out. No chance.
“It’s funny because we were coming down the tunnel and Morrison was having a word in referee’s ear and I heard and, of course, chipped my two pence in.
“He said ‘what are you doing, you don’t even want to be here’ and I said ‘ that might be the case but that doesn’t mean I don’t want to win. So there’s a big difference.
“The fact I’m not going to be here doesn’t mean I’m just going to down tools and not compete and not be snarling in the fourth official’s ear. That’s not going to happen.”
