Here is our round up of Ryman League action from around Suffolk this weekend.

Premier Division

Bury Town 2, Tonbridge Angels 1

Bury Town end their poor run of form with a confident 2-1 win at Ram Meadow over Tonbridge Angels.

An entertaining game from the start to the finish, Bury went behind on 30 minutes as Ben King’s floated ball over Connor Hall saw Tom Parkinson head over and past Stephen Fenner in to the empty net.

Bury reacted well to going behind, and within six minutes were level. Jordan Patrick working the ball down the left and playing the perfect cross to Blues’ debutant Chris Benjamin whose shot was saved by James Steel, only for Jack Willbye to smash home the loose ball and pull Bury level.

Phil Weavers nearly added a second before half-time, but he put it his header over the bar, and the hosts continued to attack in the second half - getting their rewards in the 69th minute as Hall headed home.

Following another precise Willbye corner, the centre-half saw visitors’ ‘keeper Steel make a great initial save only to knock the ball in on the rebound which ultimately proved to be the winner.

Tonbridge got on top in the last 15 minutes as they chased the equaliser, but Bury held out and took their first league win in eight games to avoid going bottom of the league, moving out of the bottom four.

North Division

Romford 0, AFC Sudbury 1

AFC Sudbury got back to winning ways on Saturday as their fine away form continued with a victory thanks to Scott Kemp scoring the only goal of the game midway through the first half.

Romford went into the game on the back of three consecutive league defeats, but they started brightly and twice in the opening stages Marcus

Garnham, making his debut in the Sudbury goal having been signed from neighbours Bury Town, twice made crucial saves.

First, he denied home striker Ryan Imbert who had broken clear and then parried a fierce drive from James Ishmail, saving Ollie Dingli’s follow-up header.

Having weathered the early storm, Sudbury got more into the game and they took the lead after 21 minutes when the home defence lost possession, and teenager Kemp finished clinically with a fine shot into the corner of the Romford net.

Chances were few in the second period with defences dominating. Romford did get the ball in the net midway through the half but Ishmail’s header was ruled out for offside.

Sudbury had their chances but were unable to make them count and were nearly punished late on when Robbie Norris blazed Romford’s best chance over the bar as the visitors held on for their sixth away league win of the season.

Aveley 2, Needham Market 0

Needham Market slipped up away at tenth-placed Aveley on Saturday, losing 2-0.

Two goals inside the opening 17 minutes ultimately killed the Marketmen, who as a result of which, lose ground on league-leaders Harlow Town who after a convincing 5-1 triumph over Cheshunt, pull four points clear.

Paul Preston’s 10th-minute strike from the edge of the box gave Needham are nightmare start, and that nightmare continued seven minutes later when Petrit Elbi danced into the Needham box before squirming an effort past Shaun Phillips. It was a bad day at the office for the Marketmen, who were continually frustrated all afternoon, and will look to get back on track next weekend with a home game against Burnham Ramblers.
