BURY Town will look to put the finishing touches to an excellent week, by continuing their mini-unbeaten run at high-flying Margate Town this afternoon.

Richard Wilkins’ men are up to fifth in the Ryman League Premier Division, following back-to-back wins over Lewes (2-1) and at East Thurrock United (3-1).

Today should certainly be a good gauge of Bury’s promotion credentials, against a strong Margate side who are third in the table, just one point adrift of leaders Whitehawk.

“We’re right back up there, with a game in hand, but it’s very tight,” explained Wilkins.

“I was very confident (at East Thurrock on Tuesday night), even though we were 1-0 down at half-time. It was a really good performance.

“Margate spent a few quid in the summer, so it will be a tough game for us. But we are playing at a high level.

“We need to keep our feet on the ground, but six points out of six represents a good week for us.

The signs are good, although I still feel that we need to add another player to the squad, if not two.

“We are a player or two short, especially if we get injuries. There might be a possibility of getting a defender in on loan, because we are a defender short, and maybe a midfielder of sorts as well,” added Wilkins.

Midfielder Craig Parker this week extended his loan from Chelmsford City by a further month.

Billy Clark has been sidelined by a thigh injury in recent weeks, although the former Ipswich Town trainee should return to the squad this weekend.

Winger Jordan Patrick will miss out, due to suspension, which could pave the way for Sam Reed’s return to the starting line-up.

Centre-half Sam Nunn, meanwhile, faces a late fitness test after clattering into the advertising hoardings at East Thurrock

Wilkins confirmed: “Billy Clark should be on the bench at Margate.

“He had a thigh problem, which just wouldn’t clear up, so he had a scan, which showed up nothing sinister.

“Billy has upped his rehab, and done quite a bit of work, with no reaction, so he should be involved, as a substitute.”

A third win on the bounce would see Bury leapfrog Margate in the table, with two games in hand over their Kent hosts.
