Bury Town take a break from Bostik North action on Saturday as they go in search of FA Trophy glory.

Ben Chenery’s side bounced back from two league defeats – to Dereham Town and Canvey – with a fine win over Hertford Town on Tuesday night.

It has got the Blues nicely back on track and into the top six in the table, just in time for this weekend’s trip to Ramsgate.

The Kent side are having a tricky time at the moment and have lost three of their four league games at home in Bostik South.

It’s an opportunity for the Blues to make Trophy progress, as Chenery acknowledges.

“It won’t be easy, we know that, but Ramsgate have lost a few at home,” he said.

“OK, it would be better if we were at Ram Meadow, but the Trophy is a chance for us to have a bit of a cup run. We got knocked out of the FA Cup at the first hurdle, so the Trophy would be nice to have a run in.

“The players like it and it can become good exposure should we get through a few rounds.”

Chenery’s side will head south in confident mood after the 4-2 victory over Hertford. Indeed Bury were 4-0 up and only a couple of late goals made the scoreline look closer.

“It was a good reaction from our boys after two defeats,” Chenery said.

“We were unlucky at both Dereham and Canvey, we gifted our goals away to be honest, there wasn’t much in either game and we could have come away with a point from both.

“So, to beat Hertford in the manner we did was good.”

Bury striker Ollie Hughes continues to suffer injury woes, damaging his wrist for a third time in a year recently. On his return to the side against Canvey, last week, he had to go off on the hour with a hamstring injury.

“Ollie has had some bad luck so far this season and luck is very much what you need at this level,” Chenery said.

“Keeping your squad fit is a big part of how your season will pan out.”

It’s a busy few days for Bury, who travel to Witham on Tuesday night in more league action.

“Spa Road is always a tricky place to go,” Chenery said.

“We’ll get the Ramsgate fixture out of the way first and then look at the Witham game.”
