TERRY Butcher has been appointed manager of Brentford.
The former Ipswich Town defender and England captain will take charge from Monday, May 7, with the London-based club already relegated to League Two.
Butcher's previous managerial experiences have been at Coventry and Sunderland as well as Motherwell in Scotland and Sydney in Australia.
“I am thrilled and delighted,” said Butcher. “I was very impressed by the Brentford board and chairman, and the plans they have for the future.
“I am aware of everybody's desire to bounce back into League One and I want to start that process as soon as possible. I am looking forward to the challenge.”
Brentford chairman Greg Dyke said: “We are delighted to have obtained the services of Terry Butcher. His record as a player is second to none, and stands as an inspiration to others.”
Butcher will be at Griffin Park on Saturday to watch Brentford play their final home game of the season against Port Vale.
