SUFFOLK County president Don Catchpole has expressed his pride in holding the position ahead of the Norfolk & Suffolk Bowls Union’s centenary celebrations which are being held tomorrow (Saturday) (2pm).

It was in February 1912 that the Norfolk & Suffolk Bowls Union was inaugurated and a match was held later that year, in August, with Norfolk coming out on top 746 to 662, following games at the Black Horse Green, Norwich and at Wherry, Oulton Broad.

Fast-forward a century and the two teams meet again tomorrow at Diss and Ixworth with Suffolk surely seeking revenge.

Catchpole, who is in his second term as president said: “It is certainly a great honour to be president in the centenary year and I am very fortunate.

“As for the game, who knows who will win? It is all about who plays well on the day.”
