Chelmsford City’s FA Cup adventure was brought to a halt for another year, following their 1-0 second round replay defeat at Macclesfield Town, last night.
The plucky Clarets gave as good as they got but chances were at a premium for Glenn Pennyfather’s side - Cliff Akurang going the closest in both halves, with a volley that cleared the bar and then a tame header that Jose Veiga saved easily.
In the end, Carl Tremarco’s 26th minute finish was enough to seal the visitors’ fate but it did not stop the 260 Clarets fans, that made the long journey north on a bitter night, from singing throughout.
Macclesfield will host Premier League side Bolton in round three.
