CHINA emerged as winners of the men’s title after a solid floor performance in the final rotation of the World Gymnastics Championships in Tokyo on Thursday.
Japan came second in a gripping final which saw both Yusuke Tanaka and Kohei Uchimura fall on the high bar to ruin the hosts’ gold chances.
Uchimura required a world record score of 16.768 to beat China into the silver medal position but the pressure told and his mistimed release was the writing on the wall for the 22-year-old reigning all-around champion.
However Japan did beat the United States into bronze by the slimmest of margins - just 0.010 points.
Russia finished fourth with Ukraine, Germany, South Korea and Romania completing the leaderboard.
