Clacton II 3 Essex University 1

Clacton got back to winnings ways with a highly spirited and well-organised performance against Essex University.

Man of the match Steve Hawes, despite being the oldest player on the pitch by some 26 years, displayed the energy and hunger befitting of his younger counterparts.

Clacton started strongly, passing and creating space well all over the pitch, thwarting any moments of individual skill from the universities Dutch import.

Danny Clow stuck early for the Seasider's, though the university were soon back on terms from a well-struck shot corner.

Despite the Seasider's continuing pressure to restore their lead, the scores remained level at half time.

Clacton were awarded a penalty flick early in the second half however Clow failed to convert. He then showed great character and determination to restore the lead from a great solo run several minutes later.

A composed Nicki Patel, alongside Hambrook and Mead, remained solid at the back throughout the game leaving stand in keeper Sam Hodge with very little to do.

Ten minutes before full time Stuart Perkins sealed the victory with a cheeky effort from a hit outside the area, deflecting the ball past the helpless keeper.

Clacton will hope to build from this for next weeks venture into London.
