EH Slazenger Women's League
Premier Division
Clifton 3 Chelmsford 1
CLIFTON took an early lead but the score was soon level after Libby Knifton scored from a reverse stick shot following a goalmouth scramble. In what has become a familiar scenario this season, Chelmsford found that they were unable to convert their chances when in front of goal. This was the difference between the two sides as the match was evenly contested throughout the 70 minutes of play.
With fellow strugglers in the Premier Division Ipswich winning, Chelmsford Ladies were relegated from the top flight of English Women's hockey in the penultimate weekend of the league.
This season has seen a young, inexperienced Chelmsford unable to win points against the best sides in the country. Whilst suffering some heavy defeats, the team has continued to play with a purpose and discipline which with the experience of this season, will be invaluable in their efforts to make a swift return to the Premier Division.
The final league match is on Saturday at Chelmer Park, start time noon. The opponents are local rivals Ipswich who face the relegation play-offs in a bid to remain in the Premier Division next season.
