Colchester failed to turn possession into goals as they lost 3-1 to Bishops Stortford on Saturday.

The home side made a determined start, closing down the Bishops Stortford players at every opportunity. This pressure gave Colchester the dominance they wanted in the early exchanges, but against the run of play the visitors broke clear and, despite a good block from keeper Jamie Newstead, the Bishops Stortford forward managed to slot away the rebound to score the opening goal.

Colchester rallied and continued to dominate possession and were soon rewarded when a blocked Bishop Stortford clearance fell to Karen Harris whose pass into the D was met by Helen Peters' fierce first time shot.

Seemingly back in the game, the home side continued to push for goal but were once again caught out on the break with Bishops Stortford awarded a penalty corner for a foot infringement in the D. The resulting strike was powerful enough to creep under keeper Newstead to give Bishops Stortford a 2-1 lead going into half time.

Colchester started the second half as they had the first, dominating possession and creating half chances. The visitors were still causing problems on the break and got their third after some neat passing split the Colchester back line leaving the forward to strike the ball into the far corner of the goal.

Colchester, still with time to come back, continued to battle, earning penalty corner after penalty corner. But, with a goal disallowed and seemingly no way past the visitor's keeper, Colchester were unable to get the goals their possession deserved and Bishops Stortford went away with the three points.
